01 · The problem

Five things the research found.

BMI cannot tell you what your body is made of.

It is your weight compared to your height, and that is all it has ever been. It cannot tell the difference between a pound of muscle and a pound of fat, so two people with the same BMI can be in completely different shape.

Thin does not mean safe.

They are light and soft, and the scale never told them. The heavier people with more muscle outlived them. The only question that ever mattered is how much muscle you are carrying, and nobody has ever measured yours.

Average is not safe either.

An ordinary amount of muscle for your age is still an ordinary person's risk, and ordinary is the group that falls. A fall at that level of muscle is the one a lot of people never come all the way back from.

Only muscle and strength add years to your life.

In a review of more than three million people, the ones carrying the most muscle and the most strength were the ones still alive. That is the finding, not our opinion.

Ozempic and Mounjaro take muscle off along with the fat.

A large share of what comes off is lean tissue. If the weight returns after someone stops, it returns to a body carrying less muscle than it had before.

Researchers stopped weighing people and started measuring how much of the body was fat and how much was muscle. What they found was simple. The more fat a person carried, the sooner they died. The more muscle a person carried, the longer they lived.

They also found something almost nobody gets told. There is a level of muscle low enough to be dangerous on its own, regardless of what a person weighs.

Not enough muscle and you die sooner. That is what the research says.

So do you have enough? You do not know. Nobody has ever measured it.

02 · The research

The obesity paradox, and what it turned out to be.

For years the research made no sense. Lighter people were supposed to live longer and they did not. Heavier people kept outliving them. It got a name — the obesity paradox — and nobody could explain it.

Then one study said it was muscle.

They stopped weighing people and measured what they were actually made of. The people who lived longer were the ones carrying more muscle, whatever the scale said about them.

Then the strength studies said the same thing.

More than three million people, followed for years. The stronger a person was, the longer they lived.

Then somebody asked how much is enough.

They went looking for the point where more strength stopped helping. They never found one.

The artificial intelligence reads the level of effort you are actually putting in and sets your load from that, instead of from a test you took three weeks ago. Nobody has to guess, and you never have to max out to find the number.

03 · The scale

The scale has been the wrong instrument this whole time.

A scale weighs everything at once — muscle, fat, water, bone, and what you had for lunch. It gives you one number and it cannot tell you which of those went up and which went down.

That means you can lose fifteen pounds and be worse off than the day you started, because five of those pounds came off your muscle and took your strength with them. The scale records that as a success. Six weeks later the weight comes back onto a body carrying less muscle to burn it than before, and the scale does not notice that either.

Every diet, every drug and every program you have ever been on was judged by an instrument that cannot tell the difference between the thing you wanted to lose and the thing you needed to keep.

We beat the scale every time. Not by getting the number lower, but by measuring the things the scale was never able to see.

Where these numbers come from

Sedentary population averages — not fitness standards.

The wall charts you saw — body fat, grip, heart rate, balance — were built from population data. That population is sedentary. Their average outcomes include:

  • Falls leading to hip fracture
  • Loss of muscle mass with age (sarcopenia)
  • Metabolic disease — diabetes, heart disease
  • Cognitive decline tied to inactivity
  • Loss of independence in the final decade of life

Every six weeks we run the same six biomarkers. Your score moves. Wellness clients climb to fitness. Sickness-adjacent clients climb out of the danger zone. Fitness clients hold the line and extend their lifespan.

05 · The field

Five things you will not find at the other strength studios.

I read the published pages of the seven brands closest to what we do. These five things are missing from all of them, and they are worth understanding before you choose anywhere.

Power.

Power is the ability to produce force quickly — the half second between your toe catching a curb and you either staying up or going down. It declines earlier than slow strength does, and a 2025 study in Mayo Clinic Proceedings found that the men with the least of it died at several times the rate of the men with the most. None of the seven train it.

A score, a letter grade or a biological age.

None of them produce a number you can take home and compare against later.

Range of motion as a trained result.

None of them claim their training gives it to you.

A published programming model.

None of them describe how the training is structured across weeks or months.

Artificial intelligence reading each repetition.

None of them measure whether a single repetition built the thing it was meant to build. Their members find out months later, or never.

There is one more difference worth knowing. Those studios generally run a single protocol: slow repetitions to failure, one set, once or twice a week. That is one of the three ways to train, used on its own — the one that builds muscle. It leaves power and strength untouched.

You have never had any of this measured. That is the whole point.
